Tosba Mezcal Tobala
Tosba Mezcal Tobala is a wild-varietal artisanal mezcal from cousins Edgar Gonzalez Ramirez and Elisandro Gonzalez Molina in the Sierra Norte mountains of far northern Oaxaca — made from Tobala (Agave potatorum), a small wild high-altitude agave prized for the delicate, refined, mineral-driven mezcal it produces.
Tobala grows wild in higher Oaxacan elevations and is significantly smaller than Espadin — taking longer to mature, producing less juice per plant, and producing a consistently more elegant and complex mezcal. Tosba’s seed-grown sustainability ethos is particularly meaningful for wild varietals like Tobala, where overharvesting has caused population declines elsewhere. The Sierra Norte location gives Tosba’s Tobala a distinct northern Oaxacan signature.
