In 2011, deep in the heart of Sugarcane Country, three childhood friends realized that rum — America’s original spirit — had become a forgotten one. Sugarcane, the ingredient central to rum, has been cultivated in Louisiana since the 1700s, yet no one had yet harnessed that abundant natural resource to create a top-notch premium rum. They vowed to change that, and two years later the Bayou® Rum Distillery opened its doors in Lacassine, Louisiana.
