Salers Gentiane Aperitif Liqueur
Salers Gentiane ApĂ©ritif is the classic French gentian liqueur from the Massif Central â produced in Salers (near Puy Marie mountain) since 1885, the oldest gentian liqueur in the category and the original from the region that birthed the style. Made from the large tuberous root of wild Gentiane lutea (yellow gentian), the result is a pure, firm, and rustic earthy apĂ©ritif at natural straw color, distinct from sweeter, artificially colored modern competitors.
Gentian root has been used in the French Massif Central for centuries as both a digestive aid and a folk medicine before becoming the basis for the regional apĂ©ritif liqueur tradition. Salersâ large tuberous-root sourcing and traditional production produce an exceptionally clean, structurally bitter, low-alcohol drink. Works well on the rocks with lemon, with San Pellegrino Limonata or other sweetened lemon sodas, or as a cocktail component in Blond Negronis, light Margaritas, and raspberry-based drinks.
