Garrison Brothers Laguna Madre Bourbon Whiskey
Garrison Brothers Laguna Madre Bourbon Whiskey is a limited release from Garrison Brothers Distillery in Hye, Texas — a Texas Straight Bourbon finished in rare Limousin oak casks from France, then aged an additional period to integrate the French oak character. Named for the Laguna Madre, a hypersaline lagoon along the Texas Gulf Coast. Garrison Brothers is Texas’s first legal bourbon distillery.
Limousin oak is the same French oak used in Cognac and Bordeaux barrel aging — tighter grain than American oak, contributing subtler vanilla and more pronounced tannin and dried fruit character. Using it as a finish on Texas bourbon — already bolder and more wood-forward than Kentucky bourbon due to Texas’s extreme temperature swings — adds a layer of European oak complexity on top of the aggressive American oak primary aging.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Caramel, dried fruit, toasted oak, and Texas-specific warm spice. Palate: Rich and bold — vanilla, dark fruit, cinnamon, and Limousin oak tannin. Finish: Long, warming, and complex.
Specs
Distillery: Garrison Brothers, Hye, Texas — Style: Texas Straight Bourbon, Limousin oak finish — Size: 750ml
